Dear Registered Organ Donor,

We invite you to join the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) on 14 June 2024 to commemorate World Blood Donor Day.

This year, SANBS is proud to present the impactful #WeAreThePulse campaign, a testament to the collective power of our community. It’s designed to celebrate the life-saving contributions of blood donors nationwide, with a special focus on inspiring new and young donors to participate in this essential act of service. The campaign features inspiring stories of donors, educational content about the donation process, and opportunities for the community to get involved, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and unity.

World Blood Donor Day, established by the World Health Organisation, raises awareness about the critical need for safe blood and blood products while expressing gratitude to voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their invaluable gifts. SANBS highlights the vital role blood donors play in maintaining the health and well-being of individuals and communities alike.

Every year, thousands of South Africans require blood transfusions for medical procedures, emergencies, and ongoing medical conditions. Your generosity as a blood donor makes these life-saving interventions possible. Blood donation is straightforward and takes only 30 minutes, a small investment of time that can potentially save up to three lives. Your decision to donate can be the difference between life and death for someone in need, empowering you to make a significant impact.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh more than 50kg, and are in good health, we encourage you to take the next step. Please find your nearest donation site by contacting 0800 11 9031, visiting our website, or connecting with the SANBS on our official social media platforms:

Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok

Your willingness to donate is a testament to your compassion and commitment to our community’s health and well-being.

Best regards,
